A toy balloon is an inflatable object which is often made of plastic or natural, biodegradable rubber.

Rubber balloons
Natural Rubber, also known as latex, is a highly flexible substance which is extracted from certain plants. Latex balloons contain small amounts of nitrosamines, but the amount which they release is non-hazardous. Nitrosamine is used as a solvent when processing latex. There are methods of reducing the amount of Nitrosamine in the finished product, but these methods are expensive. Most professionally used latex balloon brands produce a 100% biodegradable balloon that takes less time than an oak left to degrade.

Foil balloons
Foil inflatable balloons are made from plastics, such as aluminized PET film. Foil balloons are not elastic like rubber balloons, so that detailed and colorful pictures printed on their surfaces are not distorted when the balloon is inflated. Foil balloons are thus named because they sometimes have a metallic coating to make them shiny; however there have been concerns about metallic balloons causing short circuits when caught in overhead power lines. Because metallic balloons can cause power outages, it is recommended that the metallic balloons not only be tied by a string or ribbon with no metal in it, but also securely tied down by a weight to prevent the balloon from floating away. When finished using the balloons, cut the balloon to release the helium and dispose in a trash can.

Every toy balloon has an opening through which gases are blown into it. Balloons are usually filled by using one’s breath, a pump, or a pressurized gas tank. The opening can then be tied off or clamped. Foil balloons are typically self-sealing. By filling a balloon with a gas lighter than air, such as helium, the balloon can be made to float. Helium is the preferred gas for floating balloons, because it is inert and will not catch fire (like hydrogen) or cause toxic effects when inhaled. Small, light objects (postcards, in balloon mail for example) are sometimes placed in balloons along with helium and released into the air and, when the balloon eventually falls, the object inside might be found by another person. Rubber balloons can also be filled with liquids (usually water) and can burst when they impact a solid object. Liquid-filled balloons are commonly referred to as water balloons or water bombs and used in playful fights, and sometimes vandalism.

Form
Most toy balloons are a simple oval-like shape. Other balloons are longer and more cylindrical. Long balloons are often twisted and bent into simple or intricate shapes which will hold their form when released. Balloon artists are people who quickly twist balloons into familiar or abstract shapes using the techniques of balloon modeling, usually for profit. Toy balloons are used as decorations and/or advertising space. Balloons are usually purchased in deflated form; however some party stores and vendors at special events will fill their balloons before selling them.
While toy balloons are primarily a toy, they are also sometimes used for demonstrations in classrooms.

Modern kayaks

Modern kayaks have evolved into numerous specialized types, that may be broadly categorized according to their application as sea kayaks, whitewater (or river) kayaks, inflatable kayaks, and racing kayaks (flat water, white water, or slalom), though many hybrid types exist as well, broadly labeled recreational kayaks. The label "kayak" is often misapplied to other small, human-powered vessels not descended from the kayak tradition, including multi-hull or outrigger boats and those which elevate above the water on hydrofoils.

Sea kayaks are typically designed for travel by one or two paddlers on open water and in many cases trade maneuverability for seaworthiness, stability, and cargo capacity. Sea-kayak sub-types include open-deck "sit-on-top" kayaks, recreational kayaks, and collapsible "skin-on-frame" boats.

White water kayaks are in some cases highly maneuverable boats, usually for a single paddler, and include such specialized boats as play boats and slalom kayaks. White water racers combine a fast, unstable lower hull portion with a flared upper hull portion to combine flat water racing speed with extra stability in open water: they are not fitted with rudders and have similar maneuverability to flat water racers.

Surf skis, are specialized narrow and long boats for racing, surfing breaking waves and surf-zone rescues. Racing kayaks are designed for speed, and usually require substantial skill to achieve stability, due to extremely narrow hulls, though downriver racing kayaks are a hybrid style with whitewater boats.

Inflatable Kayaks are in many respects similar to white water boats, however often equipped with up to three fins. Specialty surf boats typically have flat bottoms, and hard edges, similar to surf boards. The design of a surf kayak promotes the use of an ocean surf wave (moving wave) as opposed to a river or feature wave (moving water). They are typically made from rotomolded plastic, or fiberglass.

Modern kayaks are typically constructed from rotomolded plastic, wood, fabrics over wooden or aluminum frames, fiberglass, Kevlar, or carbon fiber. Most kayaks accommodate one or two paddlers, but some special-purpose boats may accommodate more.

History

Inflatable structures were also designed by university students in England around 1961 for a fundraising event.

Construction
The surfaces are typically composed of thick, strong PVC or vinyl and nylon, and the castle is inflated using an electric or petrol-powered blower. The principle is one of constant leakage, meaning small punctures are not a problem - a medium-size "bouncy castle" requires a fan with a mechanical output of about two horsepower (consuming around 2 kW electrical powers, allowing for the efficiency of the motor).

UK and Australian bouncy castles have specifications calling for fully inflated walls on 3 sides with an open front and foam "crash mats" to catch children who may jump or fall out of the structure.

Only two states, Cheaper inflatable structures are usually made of polyester rather than nylon PVC and do not use a blower, instead they are inflated with a pump similar to an airbed. Pores in the seams and material allow air to escape as kids’ play, while the blower continues to inflate the unit. Standards
In 2005 the most severe standards in the construction of an inflatable amusement were adopted nationally in Australia, forming Federal Standard AS3533.4. This was a landmark safety standard bringing the toughest design/construction/operation standards to the inflatable industry of Australia. In 2007 the European Union (EU) followed and introduced similar Federal standards throughout Europe called EN14960.

In the US, Pennsylvania and New Jersey require inflatables to pass engineering and safety standards before allowing the equipment to be rented out.

A Family Camping Tent Can Be a Lot of Fun

Remember the first time that I got to help my dad to pick out a family camping tent when I was a kid. It was the first time I got to go to the camping equipment store with my father. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. You see, at the time I was immersed in a typical fantasy that little boys have. I loved thinking about the old West, cowboys and Indians, and the adventures that one could have in the great outdoors. A family camping tent was just the thing that we needed to start to live these adventures. Although I would have rather gone on vacation by myself, the family camping tent still provided a great possibility for travel and adventure.

The tent we got was a Eureka tent. Neither my dad nor my mom had much experience camping, so we didn’t really know much about buying a tent. We figured that we would get a camping family camping that was rated for four people – the number of people in our family. We didn’t realize how family camping tents were actually rated. A 4-person tent, you see, barely has room for four people sandwiched together tightly. You can’t take any of your gear in the tent, and you have no room to turn over, roll around, or move. Needless to say, this does not make for a very good outdoor camping experience.

We didn’t actually try out the family camping tents until us gets to our campsite. This was a bad idea as well. Camping gear is not that hard to use once you get used to it, but the first time it can take a while. In our case, we did not get into the campground still somewhat late. It was the evening when we started setting up the family camping tent, figuring that it would only take about 10 minutes. One half hour later it was not put together, it started getting stressful. The sun was setting and soon we would have no light to see what we were doing with the family camping tent. When we finally got the family camping tent together, it was too dark to cook. We ended up eating cold beans out of the can. When we finally crowded into the tent, hopelessly huddled together, we were all miserable. Although we have had better camping trip since then, the first trip with that family camping tent was not a lot of fun.
